It started as another normal Halloween with 100 to 200 visitors expected and 750 odd pieces of candy to distribute when I received a trick and a treat.
The trick was granted by our 2009 Impala whose starter gave out.
The treat is pictured above.
My favorite holiday is Halloween where I sit outside and distribute generous helpings of candy to the visitors. This year brought about 140 welcome young visitors who each received three or more pieces of the approximately 750 pieces of candy we had available, two gentleman who performed a service we wished didn't need to be performed, and one very unusual guest who stayed throughout the evening.
Tonight was very unusual due to the trick and the treat visited upon us.
The trick came first at 3 PM when my mother's 2006 Impala wouldn't start. The starter would not spin even though there was no indication of a battery or solenoid problem. I took care of mother's immediate needs and by 5 PM I was ready to begin my normal Halloween routine.
I sat outside on a lovely evening where the temperature was perfect and there was a welcome overcast sky. I had my candy and my camera (which has an Android operating system and Bluetooth which can be used to play 42 and music while I chill out). The first visitor was unexpected but welcome.
A small black cat, which lives in the neighborhood and is regularly fed by my neighbor, came by, and since it was Halloween, decided to hang out all evening and greet our other visitors.
I told most of the young visitors that I didn't own a cat and the presence of a pure black cat on Halloween made each visit especially noteworthy. He(?) hung around while each group came by and wasn't a bother at all. On many occasions he was in the crook of one of my arms while I used the other to distribute the goodies.
While I had a few hours to spare, I went ahead and called Roadside Assistance to get the car towed to a shop where she can be repaired Monday morning. They arrived at 8:30 and when they were ready to leave I gave the driver and his trainee the last handfuls of the candy.
I wouldn't have been so generous except that I developed Diabetes last year and my mother has one obsession, controlling her weight. In case you are worried my Diabetes is currently controllable with a single Metformin tablet each evening and dietary changes which include no more candy or sweet tea.
I just wanted to share this with everyone here. How often can it be where a strange black cat comes to hang around on Halloween evening?
